A Supreme Solstice

When we approach Christmas there are often lots of discussions on what its all about. As I am not religious I like to give my children all the stories my favourite to talk about is Solstice as it is something real that I can show them. Sol means Sun and Sistere means 'to stand still' and on solstice the sun rises and sets in exactly the same place for 3 nights (more details here) http://thegreenparent.co.uk/articles/read/ten-ways-to-celebrate-yule

S wanted to celebrate Solstice so we did this in a few lovely ways

We booked into our local pottery shop where we had a session painting a Solstice plate each putting a thumb print sunshine on it. It became a special treat day as we all had an amazing hot chocolate there tucked away in their attic studio.

I made a Solstice cake using feshly squeezed orange flavour in the sponge, the buttercream icing and the sunshine icing on top. yum orangey!

On Solstice eve we went for a special walk with lots of lovely people, a convoy of 5 cars with 29 friends (kids and adults) getting lost slightly on the way to the nine ladies miraculously finding each other again and having a lovely walk, lighting a light each for Solstice in the circle surrounded by bongo sounds, meeting up with more friends sharing hot soup and biscuits then back to ours for a roaring fire, hot dogs, spicy wedges and Sunshine cake ooo and mulled Thank you all for a Supreme Solstice x x x
